SQL 2008 RS & Sharepoint WMI error

REporting Services – Sharepoint Integration SQL 2008

While configureding reporting services from the applications page/grant database access, i got the following error:

Unable to connect to the Report Server WMI

and on the set server defaults

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode.

 

The problem turned out to be that I was running the centeral administration on a different server that in the sharepoint farm than where the SQL 2008 reporting server was installed.   It seems you need to install the central admin on the same server that you install the reporting services instance in order to configure reporting services.
